Overview
For most of his 36-year career, John F. Sullivan III practiced law in the litigation and trial departments of two of the largest and most prominent law firms in the world. In 2019, he began a solo practice in Houston, Texas to offer greater value and service to his clients and to avoid conflicts of interest.
John now enjoys a vibrant, nimble, and efficient law practice applying his experience and skills to help his clients resolve complex legal disputes economically and prudently, whether by negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or trial. His litigation experience is vast, having tried scores of cases to judges, juries, and arbitration panels and also having mediated and settled hundreds of cases and disputes. Given the breadth of his law practice, he is well-experienced in an array of litigation subject matters, from complex business disputes to intellectual property and personal injury cases. John is also experienced in corporate governance issues and and provides counsel to corporate officers and boards of directors. He also assists non-profits in fulfilling their governance responsibilities and to steward resources well.
John regularly does pro bono legal work that includes representation of human trafficking victims and children seeking asylum or special immigration status in the U.S. For example, he was the lead trial lawyer for the child in Young Zheng v. John Pogash and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 416 F. Supp. 2d 550 (S.D. Tex. 2006)—a case that received national attention including in The New York Times and The American Lawyer. John was a leader of a global anti-human trafficking pro bono program and also an ethical supply chain practice group leader at his last law firm. He also co-founded the Global Pro Bono Bar Association.
John is married to Kriste Sullivan, also a lawyer, and they have five children and three grandchildren. John is a competitive tennis and pickleball player, and also loves cooking, traveling, reading and leading Bible studies. He has run two marathons and has hiked the Himalayan Mountains.
John serves on the boards of directors of several non-profits and Christian ministries, including The Story Church, Houston Welcomes Refugees, Pathways for Little Feet, and Kids in Need of Defense (Advisory Board, Houston).
